Haeger Orthodontics celebrates this week the first year of the office’s participation in the Smile for a Lifetime (S4L) program that provides free, full orthodontic treatment to needy youth in the community.

Four patients receive their one-year adjustment and three new candidates receive their braces on Thursday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Maple Valley office, 22443 SE 240th St., Suite 100.

A year ago Dr. Robert Haeger and his team initiated the first “Smile” program in South King County.

“Before orthodontia people would just stare at my teeth,” recalled 20-year-old Anahi Reyes of Auburn. “But now I like to smile because I look good.”

Haeger credits a number of other professionals in the area who have donated dental, periodontal and surgical support to the less fortunate youth.

“These candidates have disfiguring teeth,” Haeger said. “Our goal is to help them achieve a smile that will benefit them their entire lives.”

JoAnne Moen of Kent is confident Haeger and the Smiles program will do just that for her former foster child and 2014 candidate, 13-year-old Bianka Anderson.

“Bianca has a beautiful voice but she won’t sing in public because she is so self-conscious about her smile,” Moen said. “Orthodontia will change Bianca’s life.”
