Several families have been displaced after an apartment fire in Federal Way on June 20.

At about 12:05 a.m. Sunday, South King Fire crews responded to a fire at the Mountain Sun Apartments (1747 S. 305th Place) in Federal Way.

Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority and King County Medic One also responded to the fire.

An entire seven-unit apartment building was engulfed in flames, resulting in extensive damage and a loss estimate of about $1.25 million, according to South King Fire and Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Gordon Goodsell.

In total, 24 adults and five children were displaced. One man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Goodsell said.

Red Cross Northwest is assisting six families affected by the fire so far, according to a tweet from the agency. The agency is expecting the number of individuals needing help to increase in the coming days.

The fire originated inside the building, but the cause has not yet been determined.

None of the units had working smoke alarms, Goodsell said.

Crews were called back to the scene later in the day due to a small amount of smoke remaining from a smoldering area of the building, Goodsell said.

[11,24
["post-50300","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-home2","category-northwest
