Kent City Council members found out which committees they will serve on with the return to smaller committees in September from the large, seven-member Committee of the Whole.<\/p>\n
The council decided in February to return to three committees with three members each for Economic and Community Development, Parks and Human Services and Public Works. Operations and Public Safety will be a seven-member committee.<\/p>\n
Council President Toni Troutner appointed the following committees:<\/p>\n
• Economic and Community Development<\/p>\n
Bill Boyce (chair), Marli Larimer and Zandria Michaud.<\/p>\n
• Parks and Human Services<\/p>\n
Michaud (chair), Troutner and Satwinder Kaur.<\/p>\n
• Public Works<\/p>\n
Brenda Fincher (chair), Kaur and Larimer.<\/p>\n
The committees hear ideas from city staff and approve proposals that then go to the full council for adoption.<\/p>\n
After dropping five smaller panels in 2019 for one large group meeting, the council will return to the multiple work group format to consider resolutions and ordinances. The Committee of the Whole meets twice a month.<\/p>\n
Three of the committees are expected to meet at 4 p.m. on certain Mondays. Operations and Public Safety will meet at 4 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays, prior to council workshops at 5 p.m. and the regular council meetings at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n
Fincher, Troutner and Kaur are up for reelection this year. Only Fincher is on the Aug. 3 primary ballot, against challengers Bradley Cairnes and Larry Hussey. The two candidates with the most votes advance to the Nov. 2 general election. Troutner will face Cliff Cawthon and Kaur will face Todd Minor in the general election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
