Kent city leaders want to know what residents think of a potential rooster ban or restrictions about how many roosters someone can own.

“We receive regular noise complaints about roosters, so we’re considering changes to our regulations,” according to a June 2 city Facebook post. “Currently, ‘frequent crowing’ is prohibited in Kent, but it’s difficult to enforce. Most surrounding cities simply ban ownership of roosters. The Kent City Council wants to hear from you to help inform their decision.”

The council had planned to vote in May to ban roosters but several residents came forward against the ban. The council had the zoning code amendment to prohibit roosters on its May 11 Committee of the Whole agenda but rather than moving the item forward for adoption at the regular council meeting May 18, the council decided it wanted more information and resident feedback prior to making a decision.
