A 31-year-old Seattle man shot and injured May 10 by a Kent Police officer is not in custody and charges are pending against him.

The man reportedly tried to ram a police vehicle with a stolen car during an incident in the parking lot of the Homestead Apartments, 20621 108th Ave. SE, in the Panther Lake area.

The man was treated for minor injuries at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and released on May 12, according to a May 21 report by the Valley Independent Investigative Team, which also reported the man is not in custody. The team is a multi-agency group of investigators from seven South King County police departments (Auburn, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, Port of Seattle and Tukwila). The Kent Police Department is excluded from this investigation because they were the involved agency.

Multiple investigators continue to work the incident, according to the report. Any charges against the Seattle man will be determined when the investigation is completed.

Body-worn camera footage of the incident has been collected from multiple officers and investigators are still reviewing that footage. Once all the footage is reviewed and processed as evidence, it may become available for release.

At about 9:40 p.m., officers were attempting to arrest a man during a stolen vehicle investigation, according to the report. He was struck by gunfire after allegedly ramming a police car. Kent Police placed the officer who fired his weapon on administrative leave. The name of the officer has not been released.
