{"id":49691,"date":"2021-05-10T15:30:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T22:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/sound-transit-seeks-public-input-on-development-in-kent\/"},"modified":"2021-05-10T15:41:04","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T22:41:04","slug":"sound-transit-seeks-public-input-on-development-in-kent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/sound-transit-seeks-public-input-on-development-in-kent\/","title":{"rendered":"Sound Transit seeks public input on development in Kent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sound Transit is seeking public comments on the future development of approximately 4 acres in the Kent\/Des Moines area.<\/p>\n<p>The land, <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/XHNBSxnK2haLAmq38\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"map\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">north of South 240th Street between Pacific Highway South and 30th Avenue South,<\/a> is currently being used to store construction equipment and house mobile offices while the future Kent\/Des Moines light rail station is being built.<\/p>\n<p>Once the Federal Way Link Extension opens in 2024, Sound Transit will make this land available for transit-oriented development. Community feedback collected through this survey and an online open house later this fall will be used to inform the content of the request for proposals for the available sites.<\/p>\n<p>The online survey will be available from May 10-31 at <a href=\"https:\/\/prr.mysocialpinpoint.com\/kentdesmoinestod\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"link\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KentDesMoinesTOD.com<\/a>. The survey will be available in English, Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali and Tagalog.<\/p>\n<p>Transit-oriented development could include different types of housing, retail, restaurants, offices and community spaces to create a vibrant neighborhood that seamlessly connects to regional transit.<\/p>\n<p>Sound Transit is partnering with the city of Kent to create a vision for future development near the Kent\/Des Moines light rail station, focused on the opportunities created through easy access to transit. The station area is part of Kent&rsquo;s plans for the Midway neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>This fall, Sound Transit will expand light rail to the U District, Roosevelt and Northgate. In 2022, Tacoma Link will expand to the Hilltop neighborhood. In 2023 trains will reach Mercer Island, Bellevue and the Overlake area.
