{"id":49440,"date":"2021-04-13T11:45:00","date_gmt":"2021-04-13T18:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/kent-to-reactivate-school-zone-speed-cameras-next-week\/"},"modified":"2021-04-13T13:00:56","modified_gmt":"2021-04-13T20:00:56","slug":"kent-to-reactivate-school-zone-speed-cameras-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/kent-to-reactivate-school-zone-speed-cameras-next-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Kent Police reactivate school zone speed cameras | Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kent&rsquo;s school zone speed cameras are back in action at six elementary schools.<\/p>\n<p>With the return this week of in-person learning, school zone speed cameras are being reactivated to help keep kids safe at the crosswalk, according to Kent Police on Tuesday, April 13.<\/p>\n<p>Police will review speeders caught on camera and issue a $136 fine for a vehicle exceeding the 20 mph school speed limit by 1 to 9 mph and issue a $248 fine for speeds of 10 mph or faster above the speed limit. The cameras operate for 30 minutes in the morning before school and 30 minutes in the afternoon after school.<\/p>\n<p>The city uses ticket revenue to help fund various police purchases, including new police vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Cameras are installed near the following elementary schools and are clearly marked with signs:<\/p>\n<p>&#8226; Neely-O&rsquo;Brien Elementary<\/p>\n<p>6300 S. 236th St.<\/p>\n<p>8:20-8:50 a.m., 12:10-12:40 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&#8226; Sunrise Elementary<\/p>\n<p>22300 132nd Ave. SE<\/p>\n<p>8:20-8:50 a.m., 12:10-12:40 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&#8226; Meridian Elementary<\/p>\n<p>25621 140th Ave. SE (on SE 256th St.)<\/p>\n<p>8:50-9:20 a.m., 12:40-1:10 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&#8226; Millennium Elementary<\/p>\n<p>11919 SE 270th St. (on 124th Ave. SE)<\/p>\n<p>8:50-9:20 a.m., 12:40-1:10 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&#8226; Meadow Ridge Elementary<\/p>\n<p>27710 108th Ave. SE<\/p>\n<p>8:05-8:35 a.m., 11:55 a.m.-12:25 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&#8226; Springbrook Elementary<\/p>\n<p>20035 100th Ave. SE<\/p>\n<p>8:35-9:05 a.m., 12:25-12:55 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Editor&rsquo;s Note<\/strong>: The city of Kent announced April 12 the cameras would be reactivated April 19.
