Neither Kent Cornucopia Days nor the Kent Farmers Market will be back this year.

The Kent Lions Club issued a statement March 10 that it will suspend the Farmers Market in 2021. The club board members voted last month to cancel Cornucopia Days.

The Lions Club called off Cornucopia Days last year due to COVID-19 and the Farmers Market opened later than normal.

“Continuing regulations and our location have made it a struggle to keep the market operating smoothly and safely,” according to the Lions Club.

“We encourage you to support our vendors at other local farmers markets in the area, including the Federal Way Farmers Market each Saturday beginning in May and the Auburn International Farmers Market each Sunday beginning in June,” according to the statement.

The market has been held at Town Square Plaza, at the corner of Second Avenue South and West Smith Street.

The Lions Club asked residents to continue to support downtown Kent businesses during this time, including attending the First Avenue Inside Out Open-Air Dining & Marketplace during July and August. The club hopes to restart the Farmers Market in 2022.

Cornucopia Days, an annual street fair in July that draws thousands of people and features more than 300 vendors, also won’t return this year.

“With the many unknowns for the upcoming summer, we did not feel like it was in the best interest of the club or our community to pursue the event this year,” according to the Lions Club. “Our hope is to begin planning in fall for Kent Cornucopia 2022, including the hunt for more sponsors that can bring our event back better than ever in July 2022.”
