Snow hit Kent hard and heavy over the weekend.

A total of 12.4 inches fell Friday night through Sunday morning, Feb. 12-14, at Sea-Tac Airport, where the official totals are measured for the area by the National Weather Service. The storm started slowly with 2.2 inches on Friday before 8.9 inches fell Saturday and another 1.3 inches on Sunday before conditions warmed up and returned to a more typical winter day in Kent and the Puget Sound region.

City of Kent Public Works crews were kept plenty busy. Most closures along major streets were just for a short time. At 7 p.m. Saturday, crews reopened the South 277th Street hill which meant all major roadways were back open.

“This is the first snowstorm we’ve had James Street under control and opened up so quickly,” according to city staff.
