{"id":48712,"date":"2021-02-02T12:08:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-02T20:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/elderly-man-dies-in-kent-mobile-home-fire\/"},"modified":"2021-02-02T12:16:43","modified_gmt":"2021-02-02T20:16:43","slug":"elderly-man-dies-in-kent-mobile-home-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/elderly-man-dies-in-kent-mobile-home-fire\/","title":{"rendered":"Elderly man dies in Kent mobile home fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An elderly man died in a mobile home fire early Tuesday, Feb. 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/FLfLXTX8yHTMvsHx8\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"map\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in the 28400 block of 168th Avenue Southeast<\/a> in Kent, an unincorporated part of King County.<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters were dispatched at about 12:50 a.m. to the Pleasant Valley Mobile Home Park, just south of the Covington city limits and east of the Kent city limits.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The mobile home was occupied by an elderly couple,&rdquo; said Puget Sound Fire Capt. Joe Root in an email. &ldquo;The female was able to get out but unfortunately the gentleman did not.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The age of the man will be released by the King County Medical Examiner&rsquo;s Office once it has done an autopsy. Red Cross assisted the displaced woman who was transported to a local hospital.<\/p>\n<p>A King County fire investigator determined the cause of the fire to be accidental and caused by an overloaded electrical power strip. Root said it is unknown at this time if there were working smoke alarms.<\/p>\n<p>The first arriving crew saw that the mobile home was fully involved and had spread to a couple of vehicles, Root said. An aggressive exterior attack knocked down the fire.
