Kent city leaders and King County staff are in active discussions about using the city-owned accesso ShoWare Center as a COVID-19 vaccination site.

Final details are still being negotiated and a contract hasn’t been signed by both parties yet, but it is anticipated it will be completed in the coming days, according to a city statement on Wednesday, Jan. 20.

The initial goal of the site will be to provide 500 vaccinations daily, six days per week by appointment only. The arena, 625 W. James St., has been closed to events since March due to COVID-19. It was a site for drive-thru flu shots in October.

The city of Kent would provide back-end logistical support through operation of the facility, technical support and traffic support through the Kent Police Department, according to the city’s statement.

Day-to-day operations would be run by the King County Department of Community and Human Services along with Public Health-Seattle & King County.

More details will be announced in the coming days.
