Heavy rain to start off 2021 caused several road closures in Kent at the usual flooding spots.

On Saturday night, Jan. 2, city crews closed East James Street between Central Avenue North and Woodford Avenue North due to water over the roadway, according to the City Public Works Department. Curb lanes also were closed for West James Street under the Highway 167 overpass.

Crews also closed on Saturday night 148th Avenue Southeast between Southeast 256th Street and Southeast 249th Street due to water over the roadway.

On Sunday morning, crews shut down Southeast 256th Street between 146th Avenue Southeast and 148th Avenue Southeast because the road was flooded.

Crews closed 132nd Avenue Southeast just north of Kent Kangley Road on Saturday afternoon to remove a tree that had fallen on the powerlines.

When roads are flooded, city crews advise drivers to use alternate routes and avoid driving through standing water.

James Street, 148th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 256th Street typically flood each year in Kent when it rains a lot in a day or two.

All lanes of East James Street reopened on Monday afternoon.
