The snow job (column, “Note to Seattle: A little salt goes a long way, Jan. 7 Kent Reporter) did not mention the corrosive destruction of vehicles caused by salt on the roads. At Anchorage, Alaska, there are vehicles less than 2 years old you can see through. Government is not to see to it we can go about our business no matter what, it was a snow storm.

The state really needs your wisdom up in the mountain passes. They require tire chains, when in fact, as you say, a little salt shaker would do. As one watches the fools on TV, few have chained up, $40,000 four-wheel-drive SUVs spinning the rear wheel with no action up front. The drivers don’t know how it works.

Our City of kent needs a snow desk that is manned when it is going to snow. By putting a street sweeper on James Hill when the snow starts, the roadway could be kept clear. The real answer is “chains required”

The article on the hockey arena (“Triumphant opening statement,” Jan. 7) failed to mention the huge fight out on the ice between two Canadians. It should be noted that that fight in a bar would be charged by the police. Now our certified police force stands by and watches assault and takes no action. Soon the children of Kent will be toothless and ready to fight anyone that outdoes them … ah the family center.
