A 48-year-old male inmate died Saturday morning, Aug. 29, at county jail at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, according to the county Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention. <\/p>\n
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man on Tuesday as Joseph Izynski and reported that the cause and manner of death are pending toxicology. <\/p>\n
Izynski was booked into the jail on Sept. 9, 2019, according to jail records. He was being held on multiple charges, including first-degree assault and unlawful imprisonment. Bail was set at $400,000. <\/p>\n
As part of the standard review process for jail-related deaths, the county Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention will work with Public Health – Seattle & King County to conduct an internal review. The Kent Police Department will also conduct an independent investigation. <\/p>\n
The man is the second inmate in the last four weeks to die at the Regional Justice Center. Lori Okpeaha, 40, died July 30 in the jail after being housed for just 21 hours. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office reported on Aug. 4 that the cause and manner of death are pending. Kent Police also are investigation the death of Okpeaha.<\/p>\n
