King County Fire investigators are evaluating an early-morning fire Friday in Kent, which damaged a home in the 10800 block of Southeast 213 Street.

The fire was first reported at 5:50 a.m., as an “unknown type.” When the first Kent Fire Department responders arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the garage of the structure and upgraded the call to a “working,” or confirmed, residential fire.

Initial concerns that a person may have been trapped in the home proved false after firefighters searched the home twice for victims.

As of late Friday morning, no contact has been made with the home’s occupants.

The fire was contained within 15 minutes and was largely limited to the garage. There is no damage estimate available at this time.

Coincidentally, this fire is next door to a house fire which took place on Nov. 15, 2008, heavily damaging the garage. That fire was caused by two children playing with matches. There is no evidence to tie the two fires together.
