Kent School District Superintendent Calvin Watts released a message on Wednesday about the district’s Continuous Learning Plan that will run through April 24.<\/p>\n
“We have been working together across labor groups and communities within our district to build capacity to provide equitable services during school closures,” Watts said in an email to students, families and staff. “Currently all KSD Schools are closed through April 24, however, Gov. Jay Inslee may extend that closure at any time.<\/p>\n
“I am pleased to share we have finalized our Continuous Learning Plan through April 24, and look forward to sharing it with staff, students and families over the next few days. I want to thank you again for your ongoing patience as we work to create a comprehensive and equitable plan to ensure all learners’ needs are met.”<\/p>\n
Continuous Learning Plan includes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n * Principals and teachers reaching out to all KSD families this week, through April 3.<\/p>\n * Spring Break will continue as planned April 6-10, except Meal Service will continue and Childcare for first responders and health care workers will continue. The Spring Break meal schedule will be posted later this week.<\/p>\n * KSD teachers will be available through virtual office hours beginning April 13.<\/p>\n * Establishing systems to reach all students, including students with disabilities, English learners, migrant students, those who are medically fragile, and students experiencing homelessness directly beginning April 20.<\/p>\n * Establishing specific learning plans for seniors. The state created potential waivers for graduation requirements for the Class of 2020 and the State Board of Education is drafting rules for these waivers, which they plan to finalize by the end of April. District leaders, high school administrators and counselors will work to determine the best way to address the needs of our seniors through a variety of pathways. Individual students at risk of not graduating will be identified and staff will reach out to provide support.<\/p>\n KSD Home Technology Access Survey coming soon<\/strong><\/p>\n In addition, we’re working to ensure equity of access to technology for all KSD students and would like to ask if your student needs a device to use at home, Wi-Fi access or if you need technical support should the school closure extend beyond April 24. Please be watching for a survey at the end the end of the week.<\/p>\n Students and families can continue to access online resources for independent, self-directed learning on our website. Though there is no perfect strategy that guarantees online success, practicing these strategies now will help students develop the right habits-of-mind to be successful.
