A 3-year-old Seattle boy suffered serious injuries in a single-car crash early Monday morning along southbound Interstate 5 in Kent, just south of State Route 516.

An initial investigation points to weather, rain and speed as factors in the crash at about 5:48 a.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.

A 31-year-old Seattle man, the driver of a 2010 Nissan Sentra, lost control on the wet highway, left the road to the right, struck a no-parking sign, rolled on its side, struck a tree and came to rest on its top about 30 feet off the roadway, according to the State Patrol report.

Paramedics transported the boy to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was in serious condition Monday morning in the intensive care unit, according to an email from a hospital spokesperson. The boy wore a seatbelt, according to the State Patrol.
