San Diego notched a 6-2 MASL victory to open a three game series in front of 2,414 fans at Pachenga Arena San Diego on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

The series continues Friday at the accesso ShoWare Center before concluding next Sunday in San Diego.<\/p>\n

The Stars dropped to 8-12. The Sockers improved to 15-6.<\/p>\n

Slavisa Ubiparipovic found Taylor Walter Bond for the Sockers’ goal with 7:52 to play in the first quarter.<\/p>\n

Brian Farber connected with Kraig Chiles just 16 second into the second quarter to put San Diego on top 2-0. Mike Ramos used an Alex Caceres assist to cut the lead in half with a Stars goal with 9:19 to play in the half.<\/p>\n

The Stars went on the power play following a blue card to Raymundo Contreras but were unable to convert. San Diego then had a double-power play chance of their own after Evan McNeley and Lamar Neagle were sent to the penalty box with 2:26 remaining in the half. Gerardo Jurado wasted no time with the first power play goal, firing the ball past the Tacoma defense two seconds into the five-on-three advantage. It was Jurado again on the power play that put the Sockers up 4-1 at halftime.<\/p>\n

The Stars’ Cory Keitz headed in a loose ball in front of Sockers keeper Boris Pardo with 13:28 remaining in the fourth quarter. San Diego quickly answered as Chiles found Cesar Cerda for a goal and a 5-2 lead with 11:33 left to go. The Sockers extended the lead on an unassisted goal from Chiles with 8:51 remaining.<\/p>\n

The first two matches between the teams featured 59 fouls and 12 penalty cards. The trend continued Sunday as Tacoma and San Diego combined for 37 fouls, 10 penalty cards but no ejections.<\/p>\n
