{"id":446,"date":"2012-06-30T11:55:40","date_gmt":"2012-06-30T18:55:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/burchard-fills-vacancy-on-kent-school-board\/"},"modified":"2016-10-23T19:35:31","modified_gmt":"2016-10-24T02:35:31","slug":"burchard-fills-vacancy-on-kent-school-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/burchard-fills-vacancy-on-kent-school-board\/","title":{"rendered":"Burchard fills vacancy on Kent School Board"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>Agda Burchard was sworn in this week as the newest Kent School Board member by Superintendent Dr. Edward Lee Vargas.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Burchard is filling the vacancy left by Bill Boyce who resigned after 16 years to focus on his new responsibilities as a Kent City Council member.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Burchard was selected by the school board after the elected officials had interviewed three candidates for the position.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Board members interviewed the candidates during a special meeting on June 26 and announced their selection after recessing to confer on the candidates&#8217; qualifications.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Burchard has lived in the community for 20 years, and has been involved in the Kent School District as a PTA member and most recently, as president of the Kent Area Council PTA. She is a consultant in early childhood education.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Burchard and her husband have a daughter attending Kentwood High School.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>&#8220;I am excited and honored to be appointed to the Kent School Board,&#8221; Burchard said. &#8220;Being a school board director has long been a goal of mine since I care deeply about kids and education.
