Karandeep Chauhan and Wylder Kraght captured class titles as Kentwood High School qualified nine wrestlers from the regional tournament for this weekend’s Mat Classic XXXII at the Tacoma Dome.<\/p>\n

Karandeep Chauhan (28-7) took a 10-9 decision over Enumclaw’s Cade Carter for the 126-pound championship in regional action at Tahoma High School last Saturday. At 132 pounds, the Conquerors’ Wylder Kraght (34-6) pinned Auburn Riverside’s Kailen Fontes in 1:18 for the title.<\/p>\n

Viet Nguyen (26-11, 170 pounds) was second and Carson Yancey (34-12, 138), Layton Smail (34-12, 145), Garrett Gregson (27-16, 170), Connor Wright (23-11, 195) and Victor Juarez (24-9, 285) were third for Kentwood. Dominic Kremer (36-8, 182) wound up fourth.<\/p>\n

For Kentridge, 132-pound Justin Kwan (31-10) finished fourth to reach state.<\/p>\n

Kentlake’s Ethan Roberts (29-10, 152, third) and Kupono Planesi (29-7, fourth 195) moved on.<\/p>\n

Kent-Meridian heavyweight Sentuli Tuifua (30-7) was second.<\/p>\n

Tahoma won the team title. Kentwood was second.<\/p>\n

The state 4A bouts begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at the Tacoma Dome. Finals for the state championships are Saturday, Feb. 22, beginning at 5 p.m<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
