The Sound Transit Board of Directors will have one new member and three reappointed members for the next four years.

King County Executive Dow Constantine on Thursday announced the appointment of Renton City Councilmember Ed Prince to the board. He also reappointed King County Councilmember Claudia Balducci, King County Councilmember Joe McDermott and Seattle City Councilmember Debora Juarez.

“Creating and maintaining a world-class regional transit system requires the input and perspective of leaders from across our region,” Constantine said in a county news release. “Councilmember Prince’s experience in Renton will help guide Sound Transit’s expansion and growth in the region for years to come.”

Prince will represent the East King County subarea on the Sound Transit board, filling the seat of retired Redmond Mayor John Marchione. Prince has served on the Renton City Council since 2012 and is the executive director of the Commission on African American Affairs for the state of Washington. Prince also serves on the Puget Sound Regional Council and previously served on the King County Regional Transit Committee.

Constantine, who serves as vice chair of the Sound Transit Board, also reappointed three current board members to new terms. Balducci represents the East King County subarea. McDermott and Juarez represent the North King County subarea.

The appointments by Constantine are four-year terms and will be forwarded to the King County Council for confirmation.

The Sound Transit Board includes 17 local elected officials – 10 from King County, four from Pierce County and three from Snohomish County. Members are appointed by their respective county executives. Washington Secretary of Transportation Roger Millar also serves on the board.

Representatives from South King County include Auburn Mayor Nancy Backus and King County Council members Dave Upthegrove and Pete von Reichbauer.
