Mathew Barzal, the former Kent-based Seattle Thunderbirds standout, will play in his second NHL All-Star Game on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.<\/p>\n

Barzal, a forward with the New York Islanders, leads the team through 37 games with 33 points, 16 goals and 17 assists, according to NHL.com. Since the start of the 2017-18 season, Barzal has not missed a game, playing in 201 straight games (through Jan. 1) for the Islanders.<\/p>\n

Barzal played in his first All-Star game last year in San Jose and was selected again this season.<\/p>\n

In his rookie season (2017-18), Barzal became the fifth Islander to win the award the Calder Memorial Trophy, given to the top rookie in the NHL.<\/p>\n

The Islanders selected Barzal in the first round (16th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

He was the Western Hockey League Playoff MVP as the T-Birds won the 2017 championship. Barzal was a two-time WHL Western Conference All-Star and was the 2016-17 WHL Western Conference Player of the Year. He played for the T-Birds from 2013 to 2017.
