A $30,000 grant will bring several improvements to the city of Kent’s Meridian Glen Park, 27535 137th Ave. SE.

New playground equipment, fresh surface for the basketball court, installation of lower basketball hoops and a new youth bike course are planned for the park.

Kent received the grant from the National Recreation and Park Association and The Walt Disney Co., according to a news release from the National Recreation and Park Association. The project is one of many around the nation that is part of the Meet Me at the Park Play Spaces initiative launched in 2017 which set out to bring play and physical activity to more than 1 million children and families and exceeded that goal in just three years.

In all, grants totaling $2.3 million facilitated new projects for 75 parks in 39 states in three years.

“Parks are absolutely essential to the health and well-being of communities everywhere, and we are grateful for the opportunity to increase access to spaces for play and physical activity, in areas where they are needed the most,” said Kristine Stratton, National Recreation and Park Association president and CEO. “These investments will benefit children and families for generations to come.”
