U.S. District Court in Seattle<\/a> to 96 months in prison and three years of supervised release, announced U.S.\u00a0 Attorney Jenny A. Durkan.\u00a0 Dennis Ray Richards, 35, was arrested Aug. 3, 2011, after\u00a0 leading police on a high-speed chase and crashing his car into a tree.<\/p>\n<\/p>\nRichards was trying to flee from Seattle Police and FBI agents who had investigated him following a series of crack\u00a0 cocaine sales to undercover officers.\u00a0 Richards pleaded guilty in October 2011 to distribution\u00a0 of crack cocaine.\u00a0 The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Robert S. Lasnik.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
According to records filed in the case, Richards is affiliated with the Pointside Gangster Crip street gang.\u00a0 Richards sold crack cocaine to a person working with law\u00a0 enforcement on two different occasions in October 2010 and January 2011.\u00a0 After Richards was charged, law enforcement officers went to arrest him and he crashed his car following the\u00a0 high-speed chase.\u00a0 In the car, officers discovered additional crack cocaine.\u00a0 Richards has four\u00a0 prior convictions for drug dealing.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Prosecutors said Richards\u2019 lengthy criminal history qualified him as a career offender,\u00a0 facing enhanced penalties under the sentencing guidelines.\u00a0 Due to his history of drug addiction,\u00a0 prosecutors also recommended drug treatment while incarcerated.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The case was investigated by the Seattle Police Department and the FBI.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
