Kent Police arrested a 23-year-old Covington man for investigation of first-degree assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm after he reportedly fired several shots at a 28-year-old Kent man at about 5:20 p.m. Aug. 30 near Kent-Kangley Road and 116th Avenue Southeast.

No one was hit by the shots, according to an e-mail about the incident from Pat Lowery, Kent Police spokesman.

The Kent man was at the Chevron gas station at the corner of Kent-Kangley Road and 116th Avenue Southeast when he saw the Covington man he recognized from a previous fight coming toward him.

The Covington man reportedly produced a handgun and fired several shots toward the Kent man, who responded by taking the gun away from the man and physically beating him to the ground. Police found the Covington man with a handgun in his possession when they arrived at the gas station.

Paramedics treated the Covington man for head injuries and transported him under police guard to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The man has been released from the hospital.
