The King County Women’s Program and Domestic Violence Council have announced a contest for local teens to produce a video public-service announcement to call attention to teen-dating violence.

The Domestic Violence Council has identified teen-dating violence as a priority for a public-awareness campaign designed to educate the public and help prevent domestic violence. The contest calls on applicants ages 13-17 in King County to develop a short creative video explaining what domestic violence is and how to make communities safer.

The contest’s grand prize is $500. In addition, up to five semi-finalists can win a digital video camera. The winning video will be broadcast on television and the Internet. It also will be presented at the 2009 King County Children and Families Experiencing Domestic Violence Conference.

The contest also is being advertised with posters and flyers placed in local high schools.

The deadline for entries is June 9 and semi-finalists will be announced on July 1. For additional information and a list of contest rules, visit www.metrokc.gov/dchs/csd/women.
