The Kent School District’s 19th annual Cherry Blossom Festival is set for Friday, March 25, from 5:30-9 p.m. at Kentwood High School, 25800 164th Ave. SE in Covington.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Pre-sale tickets are be available from members of Japan or judo clubs or the cashier at each high school for $5 through March 16. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $8. Children under 12 are free with paid admission.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Festival includes judo clubs from each of district’s four high schools \u2013 Kentwood, Kentlake, Kentridge and Kent-Meridian \u2013 competing in a showdown in the main gym, a taiko drum group performance and a fashion show celebrating traditional and modern Japanese clothing by Kentwood’s Fashion Club in collaboration with the Japan Club.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Additionally, there will be Japanese cuisine such as yakisoba and gyoza for sale, as well as other popular Japanese snack items.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

There will be activity booths hosted by each high school’s Japan Club including Dance Dance Revolution, karaoke, origami and face painting. Each high school will also have acts in the festival talent show.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The festival is a longstanding Kent School District tradition which celebrates the region’s connection to Japanese culture and provides an opportunity to celebrate the annual visit by Japanese exchange students who stay with high school students in the district.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Proceeds from the festival benefit the district’s Japan exchange and judo programs.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
