{"id":4194,"date":"2016-03-14T17:49:12","date_gmt":"2016-03-15T00:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/family-escapes-car-fire-in-kent\/"},"modified":"2016-10-22T05:50:32","modified_gmt":"2016-10-22T12:50:32","slug":"family-escapes-car-fire-in-kent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/family-escapes-car-fire-in-kent\/","title":{"rendered":"Family escapes car fire in Kent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p><strong>By Dean Radford<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>With smoke coming from his sister\u2019s car and the brakes not working, Riley Woodard needed to do something to slow down the car.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>They had heard a knocking sound, but it was really other motorists honking, warning them their car was on fire.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>His niece Kastin was in a carseat behind her mom, Kalee Johnson.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cI kind of opened up the door a little bit to get the wind to slow us down,\u201d he said, as he stood with family members alongside <a title=\"map\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/68th+Ave+S+%26+S+196th+St,+Kent,+WA+98032\/@47.4266848,-122.251556,664m\/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x54905c8b7dfa8b93:0x5613e3ce7692fba0!6m1!1e1\" target=\"_self\">West Valley Highway<\/a> Monday afternoon just south of South 196th Street.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cThe first thing I thought as we stopped was grab the baby,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>He jumped out, ran around the car, grabbed Kastin from the carseat and carried her about 15 feet away from the car.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Kaylee ran toward him and he called 911. Everyone was safe.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>It was a \u201clittle scary.
