A man was hit and killed by a southbound Amtrak train at about 7:50 a.m. Tuesday in Kent while walking on the BNSF Railway tracks near First Avenue South and West Willis Street.

The man was hit by a train that was headed to Portland from Seattle, said BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas. The name and age of the man has not been released. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the man, possibly later this week.

Sound Transit had commuter trains delayed because of the incident and sent buses to Tukwila, Auburn and Puyallup stations to assist Sounder riders.

Roads were closed for more than two hours on West Willis St between First Avenue South and Railroad Avenue South and also on South 259th Street at the BNSF crossing at First Avenue, according to the City Public Works Department.

Kent Police investigated the incident but did not have any details about why the man was on the tracks.
