The Washington State Patrol arrested a 42-year-old Kent man for investigation of felony eluding and driving with a suspended license after an 11-mile chase at about 8:30 a.m. July 13 through South King County.

The driver told troopers after the arrest he knew had a suspended license and didn’t want to pull over and have to deal with that, according to a July 15 State Patrol media release.

Troopers spotted the man in a Ford Mustang reportedly driving 78 mph on southbound Interstate 5 near South 200th Street. A motorcycle trooper attempted to stop the man in the posted 60 mph speed zone. The driver failed to stop, continuing onto State Route 516, also known as the Kent Des Moines Road.

As troopers driving patrol cars took over the pursuit, the driver continued eluding police while obeying the posted speed limits and all traffic lights. The man even took the time to use his turn signal and alert the troopers to which direction he was going to turn.

An initial attempt by troopers at a Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT) failed to stop the driver. As the driver continued onto Pacific Highway in Federal Way, a successful PIT ended the chase.

The man told troopers they made him angry when they hit his Mustang with their patrol cars.

Troopers booked the man into the King County jail.
