A 13-year-old girl died from smoke inhalation in the backseat of a car involved in a hit-and-run late Sunday night in the 9700 block of Canyon Drive<\/a>, near Kent-Meridian High School.<\/p>\n

The other two people in the car with the girl fled the scene. Kent Police are trying to track down the pair.<\/p>\n

Sabrina Ali died from toxic asphyxia due to smoke inhalation, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday. Police were uncertain where the girl lived.<\/p>\n

“There is differing information related to whether she lived in Seattle with her mother, or Federal Way with her sister,” said Kent Police Detective Melanie Robinson in an email Tuesday. “I do not have a definitive answer.”<\/p>\n

Witnesses reported that a red Mazda Protégé and a silver Nissan Altima collided head on at about 10:05 p.m., according to Kent Police. The witnesses assisted two people out of the Mazda and said the Nissan was on fire.<\/p>\n

Puget Sound Fire personnel arrived and assisted with providing aid and fire suppression. Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters located Ali deceased in the backseat of the Nissan Altima. Witnesses said two people ran from the car.<\/p>\n

Preliminary information suggests the Nissan Altima was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of traffic when the collision occurred, according to police. An area check for the two subjects who fled the Nissan was unsuccessful.<\/p>\n

“The description provided up to this point is vague, possibly two people dressed in dark clothing,” Kent Police Assistant Chief Jarod Kasner said.<\/p>\n

The occupants of the Mazda were transported to area hospitals. The status of their condition was unknown, police said. The occupants were a 48-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man from Renton, Kasner said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
