The annual American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of South King County begins with opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 7, at French Field next to Kent-Meridian High School, 10020 SE 256th St.

The event, which goes through 10 a.m. Saturday June 8, is a cancer fundraiser for the communities of Kent, Covington, Black Diamond, Maple Valley, Federal Way, Auburn and Enumclaw. Organizers set a goal to raise $150,000.

Featured activities include the Survivor/Caregiver Walk and the Luminaria Ceremony, where each light represents a life taken by cancer, a survivor of cancer or a support for a person still fighting the disease. The ceremony gives people the opportunity to grieve but also offers comfort and hope.
