Drivers will face closures on Highway 167 in Kent between the South 212th Street and 84th Avenue/Central exits from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24.

Crews need to close the lanes for work on the new South 224th Street bridge over Highway 167. The $15 million bridge is expected to be done by this fall, according to city of Kent staff.

Southbound lanes will close the nights of May 20-21. Northbound lanes will close the nights of May 22-24. Traffic will be detoured onto Central Avenue

The Kent City Council unanimously approved the project in 2008 in an effort to provide an alternate route between the Kent Valley and East Hill, as well as improve safety on the upper portion of the road where it will replace a narrow street that lacks paved shoulders, sidewalks and a turn lane. Funding and permits delayed the project for about 10 years.

Another phase of the project includes a road to run parallel to Highway 167 on the east side before going up South 218th Street to 98th Avenue South, where it will curve to South 216th Street and then connect to 108th Avenue Southeast.
