The Kentwood and Kentridge girls have plenty of speed to burn and an extra spring to their step this high school track and field season.<\/p>\n
That was on display at the Arnie Young Invitational at Renton Stadium on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Sprint, relay and jump events led the rivals to a two-three finish in the 24-team chase. Tahoma, with considerable depth, took the title with (96.5 points), followed by Kentwood (77) and Kentridge (73).<\/p>\n
Tahoma also won the boys division. Kentwood was sixth and Kentridge finished 18th.<\/p>\n
Kentwood’s foursome of Jessica Robinson, Makayla Williams, Alaynah Reed and Emma Pollak captured the 800-meter relay in 1 minute, 46.50 seconds.<\/p>\n
Pollak and Faith Marshall added wins in the 300 hurdles (45.50) and 100 hurdles (15.42), respectively, for the Conquerors.<\/p>\n
Williams picked up points with a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 (12.53) and 200 (26.76).<\/p>\n
Robinson, Pollak, Williams and Peyton Gilmore were second in the 400 relay (51.32). Pollak anchored the 1,600 relay to a second-place finish (4:08.42) with Reed, Kadija Konneh and Madison Maus.<\/p>\n
Gilmore added a third in the long jump (15 feet, 5½ inches) for the Conks.<\/p>\n
Charged up<\/strong><\/p>\n Bonet Henderson, one of the state’s top sprinters, and versatile Lauryn Ford fueled the Chargers with one-two finishes in the 100 and 200 meters. Henderson stopped the clock in the 100 in 12.24. Ford followed in 12.37, a season best.<\/p>\n Henderson (25.51) led Ford (25.71) to the tape in the 200. The senior duo joined Adama Bojang and Jayma Erker to take the 400 relay (50.61).<\/p>\n Ford left behind the long jump field with a winning leap of 17-7½).<\/p>\n Boys highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n Kentwood’s Daniel Gaik delivered a personal-best 49.28 to seize the 400. He finished second in the 100 (11.22).<\/p>\n Zakriye Mohamed was fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.94) and 300 (41.76).<\/p>\n For Kentridge, the 400 relay of Jackson Bolstad, Jeremy Banks, Jalen Stone and Nathan Peak was third (45.41).<\/p>\n Notes<\/strong><\/p>\n The Kentridge girls are off to a 4-0 start in the North Puget Sound League dual meet season after beating the Hornets 83-65 in Enumclaw on April 4. Enumclaw prevailed over the Kentridge boys (2-2), 91-53.<\/p>\n Henderson posted a season-best 12.24 in winning the 100 and turned a personal-best 25.25 in the 200. Julie Ann Romasanta took the 100 hurdles (16.89). They also were part of the winning 400 relay (50.27).<\/p>\n Bolstad won the 100 (11.74). Natano Woods claimed the shot put (48-1¼).
