Cajun food is ragin’ in Kent.

So says Reginald Robinson, whose store, Altha’s Louisiana Cajun Seasoning & Spices, has turned into something bigger at the corner of East Meeker Street and Railroad Avenue North.

Beginning Saturday, April 6, Altha’s offers a deli with a menu full of Southern tastes – from shrimp po’ boys to crabcakes, catfish to crawfish, pork to sausage, with side dishes of red beans, yams, corn and greens.

The grand opening begins at 10 a.m.

Robinson, a longtime Kent businessman who grew up on the taste of Southern food, always wanted to serve up Cajun classics to go along with minding the store and keeping it stocked with products made and brought in from New Orleans and other Southern state vendors.

The interior expansion of the deli extends the business to nearly 3,000 square feet.

“You have a lot of restaurants, but we are 100 percent original Southern soul food,” Robinson said. “We’re the originators, not the duplicators.”

Robinson opened a small shop on 84th Avenue South in 2016. Business grew, necessitating the move to Meeker a year later.
