Kent Police arrested a woman for investigation of prostitution loitering along Pacific Highway South on the West Hill. The woman told police she was working the area in hopes of making money to buy heroin.

A patrol officer in a marked vehicle driving at about 7:45 p.m. Aug. 11 in the 25200 block of Pacific Highway South recognized the woman from previous prostitution incidents, according to the police report.

The officer watched the woman stand near a bus stop and wave at passing vehicles and look at the drivers for about 10 minutes as she walked back and forth. No vehicles stopped.

When police talked to the woman, she initially said she was just out walking and waving at friends as they drove past her. She waved at about a dozen vehicles.

The officer noted in the report that the bus stop near the Crossland Economy Studios hotel, 25104 Pacific Highway S., is a known area for prostitution activity.

Assault

Officers arrested a woman for investigation of fourth-degree assault after she reportedly punched and scratched her boyfriend during a dispute at about 6:06 p.m. Aug. 10 at an apartment in the 25700 block of 135th Avenue Southeast.

The boyfriend called 911 to report his girlfriend had punched her, according to the police report.

The man told officers he had argued with his girlfriend about her combative attitude. He added that she had been drinking and was on the ground in a stupor at times during the dispute. At one point, she grabbed him, pulled him toward her and punched him in the jaw.

When officers talked to the girlfriend, she admitted to arguing with her boyfriend but denied scratching or punching him. Officers noted the man had scratch marks on his arm. They asked the girlfriend how she think he got those marks. She replied it might have been from one of their dogs. She also told officers she had two beers and vodka prior to the argument.

The couple lives together. They have been dating for about 18 months.

Assault

Police arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault and drunk driving after he allegedly grabbed his pregnant girlfriend by her hair, choked her and also threatened her with a knife.

The incident occurred at about 1:35 a.m. Aug. 11 near the intersection of East Titus Street and Reiten Road South, according to the police report.

The girlfriend told police she had attended a party with her boyfriend and they were traveling home in his pickup when he started to drive recklessly and eventually stopped the truck. He told her to get out of the truck and that he was going to cut out her stomach.

A man driving near the incident saw the woman and man in the street and slowed his vehicle. The woman ran up to the car screaming for help. The boyfriend got back in his pickup and started to leave the area before police stopped the truck.

An officer pulled out his gun and ordered the man out of the truck. The man finally exited the truck after more officers arrived. He denied making threats to his girlfriend or pulling out a knife. Police were unable to locate a knife.

The boyfriend told officers had had about six beers earlier. Blood-alcohol content level tests showed the man with a blood alcohol level of .14 and .13, each above the legal limit of .08.
