Your recent letter writer who declared Donald Trump “the most competent president in history” because he is a successful businessman might be in for some surprises.

History may remember Trump as the most incompetent president after refusing to acknowledge that the U.S. Constitution and federal law prevented him from running the government as if it was his private corporate empire.

What about Trump’s latest business decision to use what he sees as surplus funds to build The Wall?

If the courts agree, what next? Who gets those multi-billion dollar construction contracts? Trump’s old pals in the building industry? Wealthy Republicans who make big donations to the GOP?

Trump claims he has interest in more than 200 private corporations, but won’t provide details. That raises the possibilities Trump could award contracts to companies that would channel billions of taxpayer dollars through dozens of subcontractors and vendors and eventually to subsidiaries partly or wholly owned of Trump Enterprises, with profits benefiting the Trump family.

So far, the only people asking those questions are me and hundreds of others, including most members of Congress. Why do you think House Democrats plan to investigate Trump’s tax returns and business interests? Investigations already are underway of allegations the Trump family is benefiting financially because he is president, in violation of federal law.

Perhaps those voters who say they picked Trump because he was a good businessman should be looking for candidates in 2020 who have sound management skills and, unlike Trump, will follow the oath of office and adhere to the Constitution of the United States.
