The San Diego Sockers completed a home-and-home sweep of the Tacoma Stars with a 9-5 Major Arena Soccer League win at the accesso ShoWare Center on Sunday night.<\/p>\n
With the win, San Diego (14-1) pushes its league-best win streak to 12 games. The Kent-based Stars dropped to 6-8.<\/p>\n
The Sockers beat the Stars 6-4 in San Diego on Friday night.<\/p>\n
San Diego took a 1-0 lead on Travis Pittman’s seventh goal of the season.<\/p>\n
After a blue card was shown to San Diego’s Cesar Cerda, Tacoma evened the match 1-1 on Joseph Cairel’s power play goal.<\/p>\n
The Sockers then rattled off three unanswered goals by Luis Ortega, Brandon Escoto and Juan Gonzalez to take a 4-1 lead to the locker room.<\/p>\n
Six goals were scored in the third quarter beginning with Joey Gjertsen’s first of two goals on the night to cut San Diego’s lead to 4-2. Three straight goals from the Sockers made it 7-2 with 7:33 left in the third. Guerreo Pino, Escoto and Christian Gutierrez combined to give San Diego the five-goal cushion.<\/p>\n
Mike Ramos netted a goal with 5 minutes on the clock, and Nick Perera brought the Stars within three just before the end of the quarter at 7-4.<\/p>\n
Gjertsen knocked in a power play goal with 8:22 remaining for Tacoma’s final score of the game. The Stars brought on the sixth attacker, and the Sockers added goals from Ortega and Christian Segura to reach the 9-5 final.<\/p>\n
The Stars’ next home game comes is Sunday, Feb. 24 against the Dallas Sidekicks. Kickoff is set for 5:05 p.m. on Washington Youth Soccer Hall of Fame Night.<\/p>\n
