Snow continues to turn to rain Tuesday as Kent begins to shed a heavy, white blanket.

Precipitation in Kent was changing from snow to rain to a snow mix across the area after another storm front that moved in Monday, brought a bit more snow.

As snow on roadways turns to slush and standing water, drivers are urged to travel with caution.

Public Works crews will continue to plow open primary and secondary routes into the evening, and anticipate plowing, or removing slush, from a list of closed roadways Monday and into Tuesday.

Kent Municipal Court, Kent Senior Center, Kent Teen Center and rentals at Kent Parks are closed Tuesday.

Kent Commons will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, but all classes, programs and rentals are canceled.

The Kent School District, and Green River and Highline colleges are closed Tuesday.

Garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup service has been canceled for Tuesday. Customers will not be charged for extra collection when collections resume. Please move containers off the street until your next scheduled pickup day. Visit Republic Services for more information.

There continues to be delays or cancellations on numerous transit and flight schedules. Check with local transit agencies for the latest schedules. (King County Metro, Pierce Transit, Sound Transit, Sea-Tac International Airport).

City update

The city of Kent sent out the following update Tuesday morning:

• We hope to open the remaining closed roadways by your Tuesday afternoon commute today. Updates will continue to be emailed out from DriveKent.com and posted on Facebook, Twitter and Nextdoor.

• Slush is slippery to drive on, so continue to go slow, give yourself ample stopping room, and use caution. If you still have ice, snow or slush on your vehicle, please brush it off completely, including your headlights and brake lights, before venturing out.

• Public Works crews are working to clear catch basin grates to allow standing water to flow from the streets. Call the city at 253-856-5600 to report any flooding on Kent roadways, so we can work to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

• Kent has more than 19,000 catch basins along our roadways. If you live along a residential street and have a catch basin along the gutter near your home, please clear the catch basin grate if you are safely able to do so.

• We’ve received reports of falling trees due to the weight of wet snow. If a tree has fallen into the public roadway, please call the city at 253-856-5600 to report the location.

• If you see or suspect a downed power line, please do not approach it and call 911 immediately and notify PSE at 1-888-225-7773. (Reporting them on social media does not ensure a prompt or safe response and could delay repairs noticeably) You can learn more about the dangers of downed power lines at PSE.com: https://www.pse.com/pages/downed-power-lines

• If a downed power line is blocking a public roadway, please call the city at 253-856-5600.
