The city of Kent recently named Municipal Court security officer Bryan Reil its 2015 Employee of the Year.

Hired in July 2007, Reil is responsible for security in the Municipal Court. His duties include monitoring scanners and weapons detectors, conducting security inspections and reporting and responding to all incidents that threaten the security of the staff and customers of the court.

Nominated and selected by his peers, Reil is described as consistently caring; treating everyone who visits the court with dignity and respect.

According to Municipal Court Judge Glenn Phillips, Reil sets an amazing example of what it means to serve the public.

“Given the nature of the work at the court, Bryan has an amazingly positive attitude,” Phillips said in a city media release. “As one of the first employees visitors to the court come into contact with, he represents the city extremely well.

“Even in the most trying of circumstances, Bryan is sensitive to the needs of each person. He’s able to diffuse negative situations with kind words and encouragement. We’re fortunate he’s part of our team, and we’re proud he’s been recognized for his hard work and dedication.”

Before joining the city of Kent, Reil was an officer with the Bellevue Police Department and retired after serving 34 years.

The city’s recognition program honors employees who in the view of their peers, go above and beyond in the areas of performance, attitude, motivation and dedication. Given annually, the Employee of the Year is chosen from more than 600 employees across 10 departments.
