The Franz Bakery Outlet on the West Hill, 23009 Military Road S., will close next month after more than 30 years in Kent.

Franz is closing Feb. 1, said Stacie Sakaguchi, retail district manager for the Portland-based company, in a Thursday email.

Poulsbo RV recently bought the property, which Franz leases, in order to expand its property along Military Road South. The RV company hopes to stay in the area when the state Department of Transportation constructs a tunnel under Interstate 5 to connect Veterans Drive with State Route 509. The highway project could start in 2020 with a projected completion date of 2025 or 2026.

Three employees work at the Kent Franz outlet. Sakaguchi said customers who use the Kent location can visit the Tukwila outlet, 17500 W. Valley Highway, which is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Franz, which started in 1906 in Portland, has 28 outlets in Washington. The company also has outlets in Oregon, Idaho, California, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming and Utah. Franz has 10 bakeries in six states, including locations in Seattle and Spokane.
