The Toys for Joy program is closing shop for the holiday season after another successful campaign to help the community.

Because of the generosity of local businesses and community members, the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority collected more than 5,000 toys for local children. Firefighters and volunteers delivered the toys Wednesday morning to the Kent Food Bank.

A new part of the giving program is the addition of the Holiday Engine, which has been a part of Maple Valley for years, but now works with the Toys for Joy program due to the contract for services between Puget Sound Fire and King County Fire District 43.

The Holiday Engine program has collected more than $21,700 and 32,000 pounds of food for Maple Valley area families this holiday season, with one more weekend to go. Distribution of the donations is through the Maple Valley Food Bank.

Puget Sound Fire would like to thank those who donated to the community, especially supporters PODS; Reddaway Trucking; Fred Meyer; Walmart; Grocery Outlet; and Starbucks.
