The city of Kent will close a portion of South 228th Street for approximately two years for work on the vehicle-Union Pacific Railroad grade separation <\/a>overpass<\/a>.<\/p>\n Starting on Tuesday, Nov. 27, crews will close South 228th Street between Sixth Avenue North and 72nd Avenue <\/a>South<\/a>, according to city officials.<\/p>\n Detour routes will be in place at 76th Avenue South\/Fourth Avenue North and at 68th Avenue South\/West Valley Highway, directing drivers to use South 212th Street during the closure.<\/p>\n Interurban Trail will remain open for the next several weeks but will be closed for the majority of the project, which is expected to be completed in late 2020.<\/p>\n The grade separation with the street overpass over the tracks will provide a regional connection between the nation’s fourth largest warehouse and industrial center in Kent with the Ports of Tacoma and Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport.<\/p>\n The cost of the project is an estimated $24 million. The funding is provided by the Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board, Union Pacific Railroad, Puget Sound Regional Council, the state Department of Transportation and the Port of Seattle.
