Let’s dig into the “special interests” that wrote and support I-1631. These are the dastardly, irresponsible, greedy groups that want to steal your money and use it for their own nefarious means, contrary to the public good and everything you want for your family.

These “special interests” include:

The League of Women Voters, a “proud to be nonpartisan” group that “encourages informed and active participation in government.”

The Nature Conservancy, whose mission is “to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends.”

Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility, who are dedicated to creating “a healthy, just and peaceful world for both the present and future generations.”

Moms Rising, an organization working “to achieve economic security for all moms, women and families in the United States.”

They all support I-1631, along with more than a hundred other mission-driven groups with such objectionable aims as improved human health, better jobs, human rights, spiritual connectedness, improved civic engagement, and a better future for our kids.

Wait a second.

Forgive me, but these folks don’t really sound like people I should be fearing will be irresponsible with public money. They sound like the kind of people whose “special” interests are pretty aligned with my own and those of my community.

That’s why I’ve already voted yes on I-1631. If you haven’t already been misled by the $28 million effort to convince you that oil companies have your best interest at heart, I encourage you to get out your ballot and vote yes on I-1631.
