A Kent Police officer pursued a speeding driver who twice pulled over and sped off again before two officers used their vehicles to stop the car at a roundabout.<\/p>\n
Officers arrested a man for investigation of reckless driving, failure to obey an officer and driving with a suspended license, according to the police report.<\/p>\n
The incident began at about 10:20 p.m. Sept. 12 in the 24600 block of 116th Avenue Southeast on the East Hill. An officer, stopped in a parking lot, heard a vehicle with a loud exhaust and revving its engine coming northbound along 116th Avenue Southeast. He then saw a black Honda Civic go past at a very high rate of speed.<\/p>\n
The officer began to follow the vehicle as it approached 60 mph in a 35 mph zone. The officer activated his overhead emergency lights and pulled the driver over in the 23200 block of 116th Avenue Southeast. When the officer started to exit his SUV, the driver sped away.<\/p>\n
The pursuit continued northbound when the Honda driver slammed on his brakes and jerked two wheels up on a sidewalk in the 22600 block of 116th Avenue Southeast. The officer used his SUV to tap the Honda’s rear bumper, hoping to keep the driver stopped. But once again, the driver sped off.<\/p>\n
Other officers were notified about the pursuit. A short while later, two officers in their vehicles were able to stop the driver at a roundabout at Southeast 223rd Drive and 118th Avenue Southeast with one vehicle in front of the Honda and one behind it.<\/p>\n
The driver declined to answer any questions from police about the incident. The pursuit was about 1.8 miles and lasted about 2 minutes, 45 seconds.<\/p>\n
Man grabs girlfriend by neck<\/strong><\/p>\n Police cited a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly grabbed his girlfriend around the neck during a dispute at about 9:53 p.m. Sept. 15 at a condo in the 23900 block of 66th Avenue South.<\/p>\n The man apparently saw his girlfriend texting while on the toilet and became upset, according to the police report. He grabbed her by the neck and squeezed it before leaving the condo and driving away.<\/p>\n The woman told officers she has a child with the man and that they have had an on-and-off relationship since 2004. When an officer reached the boyfriend by phone, he denied that he had grabbed his girlfriend by the neck, claiming she made up the story.<\/p>\n Man wanted on escape warrant<\/strong><\/p>\n Police arrested a man wanted for a state Department of Corrections escape warrant after an officer spotted a vehicle that had expired tabs.<\/p>\n The officer ran a records check on an Infiniti southbound on 84th Avenue South at about 1:30 p.m. Sept. 13. The officer saw a temporary permit in the rear window but noted the print was not consistent with the print on temporary vehicle permits he had seen. The officer stopped the vehicle in the 7500 block of South 228th Street.<\/p>\n The driver didn’t have registration or proof of insurance. He said someone gave him the temporary vehicle permit. A male passenger in the vehicle gave police a fake name. When the officer used a mobile fingerprint scanner to identify the passenger, it came back that he had an escape warrant.
