CHILDREN & FAMILIES<\/p>\n

Kaleidoscope Play & Learn-Spanish: 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Sept. 7, 21 and 28. Newborn to age 5 with caregiver. Have fun singing songs, telling stories, reading books, creating art and playing. Play & Learn is in English, and the facilitator is bilingual in English and Spanish.<\/p>\n

Family Pajama Story Times: 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18, 25. Family program, all ages welcome with adult. Stories, songs and fun.<\/p>\n

Toddler Story Times: 10:15 a.m. Sept. 19, 26. Ages 2 to 3 with adult. Stories, songs and fun.<\/p>\n

There is a Super Hero Inside All of Us, A Cartooning Journey with Captain America: 10:30 a.m. Sept. 22. Ages 5 and older with adult. Vishavjit Singh, a New York City-based cartoonist, writer, speaker and performance artist, will lead a storytelling workshop to bring out the super hero within all of us. He will share his story via cartoons followed by an interactive workshop where the young participating artists will create their own super heroes.<\/p>\n

Arabic Story Times: 3:30 p.m. Sept. 22 and 29. Ages 2 and older with adult. Stories, songs and fun.<\/p>\n

Origami for Beginners, Space: 4:30 p.m. Sept. 28. Presented by Emily Mallory of Emily’s Papercrafts. Ages 7 to 11 with adult caregiver. Program not appropriate for younger children. Come for a spacetastic time learning how to fold an origami flying saucer and a flying star that you get to take home at the end of the program. All supplies provided. Please register children only.<\/p>\n

TWEENS & TEENS<\/p>\n

Between Time: 2 p.m. Sept. 19 and 26. Ages 9 to 19. Drop in between school and home to meet friends, play games, discover new books and music, study or try different craft or tech activities each session. In celebration of National Welcoming Week, we will create a “Welcome Home Tree” and make pinback buttons to share. Supplies provided.<\/p>\n

A Sikh and Hairy Tale, Cartoons, Turbans and Super Heroes: 1 p.m. Sept. 22. For teens and adults. A fun and entertaining introduction to a group of Americans amongst us whose appearance at times can lead to a lot of misperceptions and confusion. Vishavjit Singh is a cartoonist, writer, performance artist and creator of Sikhtoons.com, based in New York City. He is also a Creative Arts & Diversity Fellow at the Washington based advocacy group, SALDEF. He will share his story via cartoons and a short film, leaving you with images to take away of what makes America this amazing diverse, dynamic family with global roots. The event is part of National Welcoming Week. A display of Singh’s cartoons can be found at the Wing Luke Museum in Seattle: wingluke.org\/wham-bam-pow<\/p>\n

Wizarding Workshop, Harry Potter 101: 2 p.m. Sept. 26. Ages 9 to 19. Welcome to American Wizarding School Ilvermorny’s House Pukwudjie. Featuring House badges, games and Wizarding events. Guests sorted to other houses are welcome.<\/p>\n

Study Zone: 3:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sundays. Fall session begins Sept. 10. Grades K-12. Drop in any time during Study Zone hours to get assistance from volunteer tutors on math, reading and basic study skills.<\/p>\n

ADULTS<\/p>\n

Coordinated Entry for All, Housing Resources: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 6 and 27. CEA ensures that people experiencing homelessness in King County can get help finding stable housing by identifying, evaluating and connecting them to housing support services and housing resources. Take the first step and drop in to meet with a housing assessor from Multi-Service Center. Questions? Call the center, 253-838-6810.<\/p>\n

Sign Up for ORCA LIFT & Basic Food: 3-5 p.m. Sept. 11. Drop in to register for ORCA LIFT (reduced transit fare for ages 19 and older) and Basic Food. Basic Food is what Washington calls the USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps people make ends meet by providing monthly food benefits. Individuals and families may apply.<\/p>\n

Kent Friends of the Library Book Sale: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 14, 15; 1-3 p.m. Sept. 16. Proceeds support library programs for children, teens and adults. Reduced prices on Sunday.<\/p>\n

After Lunch Book Club: 1 p.m. Sept. 19. “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid<\/p>\n

Journey to Peace, A Community Feast and Sharing Event: 5-7:30 p.m. Sept. 22. At the Kent Senior Activity Center, 600 E. Smith S. Join us for a community feast and sharing of our personal experiences. The celebration during National Welcoming Week brings together immigrants, refugees and native-born residents to raise awareness of the benefits of welcoming everyone. The evening will consist of a meal catered by Project Feast, facilitated dialogue along with music, and an opportunity to connect with people of all different cultures and religious affiliations. The sharing and storytelling will be facilitated by SiSwinKlae, following in the Northwest Coast First People’s tradition. The event is free and open to all ages. Please be advised the feasting and sharing will happen with everyone seated for roughly two hours and plan to arrive by 5 p.m. to participate in the welcome ceremony.
