The Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority and the Office of Emergency Management are offering Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training.<\/p>\n
The eight-week program begins Sept. 18. The class meets on Tuesdays, with the first session beginning at 1 pm, and a second one at 6 p.m., at the Joint Police\/Fire Training Center, 24523 116th Ave. SE, Kent.<\/p>\n
Classes are free and open to anyone in the area interested in being better prepared for a disaster.<\/p>\n
Over the eight weeks, participants will gain valuable information and skills in:<\/p>\n
• Search and rescue<\/p>\n
• Leadership and the incident command system<\/p>\n
• Disaster medical and triage<\/p>\n
• Heavy lifting<\/p>\n
• Hazardous materials recognition<\/p>\n
• Fire extinguishment<\/p>\n
• Disaster psychology<\/p>\n
CERT is a government program, hosted by local agencies to help people prepare for and survive the first 72 hours following a disaster, whether man-made or natural.<\/p>\n
