As work continues on the Tacoma Stars roster for the 2018-19 Major Arena Soccer League season, the team announced Wednesday that midfielder Derek “El Tigre” Johnson will return under contract.

Per team and league policies, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Johnson appeared in 12 games last season for the Stars, picking up seven points (four goals, three assists).

In his career with Tacoma, Johnson has racked up 63 points – 42 goals, 21 assists – in 59 regular-season contests. He added a goal in two playoff games during the 2015-16 season.

“Derek is a goal scorer, and we will look to him to get back on that horse in 2018-2019,” said Stars coach and general manager Darren Sawatzky.

The Stars return to action Dec. 1 with an expanded schedule. Tacoma will have 12 regular-season matches in the accesso ShoWare Center.
