{"id":3591,"date":"2014-05-20T13:34:38","date_gmt":"2014-05-20T20:34:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/congressman-visits-kent-school-districts-igrad\/"},"modified":"2016-10-22T04:40:26","modified_gmt":"2016-10-22T11:40:26","slug":"congressman-visits-kent-school-districts-igrad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/congressman-visits-kent-school-districts-igrad\/","title":{"rendered":"Congressman visits Kent School District&#8217;s iGrad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p><strong>For the Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA, District 9) visited Kent School District last Thursday to take a closer look at award-winning iGrad, its cutting-edge youth re-engagement program.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>&#8220;This is an important program that utilizes critical partnerships to re-engage former students who want the opportunity to determine their future,&#8221; Smith said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>iGrad has partnerships with Green River Community College and others to provide students with high school diplomas, associate&#8217;s degrees and technical certificates. As a Kent School District program, there is no charge to students to complete these credentials.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>&#8220;iGrad is a benefit to the entire state, as some students come from far outside the district to complete their education,&#8221; Superintendent Edward Lee Vargas said. &#8220;Congressman Smith&#8217;s interest and visit mean a great deal to us.
