Kent Police Officer Jason Clift put a big smile on the face of a young boy this week after giving him a new bicycle.

During a fireworks emphasis patrol Tuesday at the Birch Creek Apartments on the East Hill, Clift saw a boy riding a bicycle that was literally on its last wheel, according to a Kent Police Facebook page post.

Clift chatted with the boy and suggested he needed a new bike. The officer asked the boy where he lived. The boy said he lived with his grandmother but didn’t know his address, so the officer asked the boy to go ask his grandmother for his address and he would bring him a new bike the next day.

Clift had a new bike at home that he knew would be a perfect fit for the boy.

Clift, on Tuesday, delivered the bicycle to the boy and received a big hug in return.

“Some days, this is our job and it ain’t too shabby,” Kent Police posted on its Facebook page with a photo of the officer and the boy.
